Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Update for Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi

We already posted a news that Motorola planned to begin an Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean soak test for Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi units in the US.

However, it appears that the test was successfully completed in less than a day, so Google has now started the rollout of the update to all Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi tablets in the US.The update is currently rolled out OTA (over the air) in stages, so it might not be available to all users at once. The update adds lots of new features, improvements and enhancements. The overall performance and stability of the tablet have been improved as well.

On a side note, Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi is the first 10-inch tablet that receives an upgrade to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. Keep in mind that the update is only available in the US.a

Nokia Lumia 1001 PureView Concept Phone Features Windows Phone 8

Nokia may launch with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform on board is the Lumia 1001, still only a rumor for the time being.

Although no info on what the upcoming device would look like has emerged so far, or on whether it would indeed become a commercially available handset, enthusiasts still dream of it.
Based on the Windows Phone 8 platform, the Lumia 1001 concept device sports a fast 1.6GHz application processor, along with a 4.3-inch AMOLED ClearBlack touchscreen display, capable of delivering a 1280×768 pixel resolution and protected by Gorilla Glass.

The smartphone would feature 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, while also offering the possibility to expand it through a microSD memory card slot by up to 32GB. On the back, the phone would sport a 41-megapixel photo snapper with Xenon flash, powered by PureView technology and offering support for full HD video recording. It would be accompanied by a 1.3MP front camera for making video calls.

The specs list of this concept phone also includes a 2200mAh battery, along with HDMI, DLNA, microUSB slot, USB Mass Storage, 3.5mm Audio/Video, NFC connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi and the like. As one would expect from a Windows Phone 8 device, Lumia 1001 would also include Internet Explorer with Bing and support for HTML5 content, along with fast access to social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and more.

With included support for multi-core application processors and for external storage via MicroSD memory cards, Windows Phone 8 would certainly be loaded on handsets that resemble the Lumia 1001.
What remains to be seen is whether Nokia will indeed launch a Lumia handset to pack these specs and what it will actually look like. As can be seen from the photos attached to this article, the concept device resembles the Lumia 900 and Lumia 800 smartphones, the same as Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 devices might.

Xiaomi Phone Supporting Android Jelly bean and Windows 8

Xiaomi Phone was launchedin December, but only small units were available for general public. The handset manufacturer linked a partnership with China Unicom in order to deliver as many Xiaomi Phone units as possible.

In fact, the both companies planned to deliver around 1 million Xiaomi Phone devices to customers who were willing to commit to a long-term contract.The phone’s main selling point is the very low price and the impressive specs sheet. The Xiaomi Phone was offered for half the price of a device with almost similar features. Furthermore, the device was a strong competitor for Apple’s iPhone, but also for other Android handset makers.

The original Xiaomi Phone features a powerful 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon S3 processor, an Adreno 220 GPU, and packs 1GB of RAM. Although the smartphone comes with only 4GB of internal memory, users can further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card.
Another strong point of the phone is the fact that it supports multiple third-party ROMs, in addition to Android ROMs and the MIUI pre-loaded on the smartphone.

Last but not least, the Xiaomi Phone sports a 4.0-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixels resolution, as well as an impressive 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.Rumor has it that the company plans to launch a Xiaomi Phone follow-up, which is expected to be more powerful than the original model.

the second-generation Xiaomi Phone will arrive with an improved 720p capacitive touchscreen display and a quad-core processor. the rear camera will feature dual-LED flash, autofocus and full HD (1080p) video recording. A front-facing camera for video calls will be available as well.

However, the most important thing is that fact that the device will support both Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Windows Phone 8 operating systems. There are no details on the phone availability, but word is that it will be priced at around 2,000 yuan ($315 USD). Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.

Sony Xperia Casa Concept Phone in 2Ghz Dual-Core

Dual-core application processors are becoming popular nowadays powering both high-end and affordable devices, regardless their maker.

While these processors are usually clocked in at around 1.5GHz, the possible inclusion of a 2GHz chip inside a new device is not farfetched, and this is the idea behind the new Sony Xperia Casa concept phone. The device might easily fit into Sony’s Mini series of Xperia handsets, that’s for sure, though it would pack latest-generation hardware specifications.

One thing that strikes from the beginning is the fact that this phone is rather small, which could easily make it a great option for fashionistas. However, it does feature all the components and capabilities that any other smartphone available today on shelves would include. On the side, it sports the volume and camera buttons, along with the microUSB port and the audio-jack on the other side. Being a classic design, the phone’s body also sports the on/off button on the side.

Ben Ling, the designer of this device, also notes that an Exmor R camera would be present on the back of this phone, capable of recording videos in full HD resolution. Moreover, the device would sport a 1.3MP camera on the front, great for making video calls in HD resolution. The phone’s specs also include 1GB of RAM to go with the 2GHz CPU, along with 16GB of internal memory, and a Li-Ion 1910 mAh battery.

Additionally, the mobile phone would include NFC capabilities, Bluetooth 4.0, xLOUD technology, and a screen packing Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine and 357 ppi pixel density.
On top of these all, we could see Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform, along with specific customizations coming from Sony, as on all other Xperia handsets.
If real, the device would land on shelves with a price tag of around 300 Euro attached to it, making it even more appealing, based on its internal circuitry.
However, there’s no telling on whether Sony would actually plan the launch of such a smartphone, although the company has been pushing a great deal of new handsets to the market lately.
