Samsung Galaxy Note 2 On September

According to the first rumors on the unannounced Galaxy Note 2, Samsung plans to put one of its newest Exynos system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution inside this smartphone.
In addition, the device should boast a large 5.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, which might be of the same quality as Galaxy S III's PenTile screen.
It's been also rumored that Galaxy Note 2 will be equipped with 1.5GB of RAM, but given the fact that some Galaxy S III models are already shipping with 2GB of RAM onboard, this won't make it stand out.
Today, GSMArena claims that the 5.5-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display has been confirmed by a trusted source close to thematter.
Moreover, the cited source also claims that the Galaxy Note 2 will come with 2GB of RAM instead of the previously rumored 1.5GB of RAM.
Apparently, the next Galaxy Note device will be a bit narrower than the original model and will feature a Galaxy S III-like form factor and design.
The smartphone will be powered by Samsung's Exynos 5250 chipset with dual-core ARM 15 processor, but this information has yet to be confirmed.
No word on the amount of megapixels of the main camera, but rumor has it that Galaxy Note 2 will boast an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back with improved sensor.
More importantly, Samsung decided to move therelease date of the Galaxy Note 2 to September, though previous rumors claimed thesmartphone will arrive in October.
The reason behind the South Korean handset maker's decision seems to be the fact that Apple plans to launch the iPhone 5 in October, so Samsung want to grab as many customers aspossible before the Cupertino-based company comes forward with its latest product

No Flash Support for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Bad news to android users there will be no flash support for android 4.1 jelly bean.

Some of you may be thinking that this isn’t abig deal because Flash is supported in Chrome. This, after all, is how Adobe continues to semi-support Flash in Linux . Specifically, Adobe is working with Google ona single application programming interface (API) for hosting plug-ins within the browser. The API, code-named “Pepper “, provides a layer between the plug-in and browser that abstracts away differences between browser and operating system implementations. Pepper is currently an experimental feature in Chrome.

But, if you look closely you’ll find that the “Pepper” implementation of Flash Player is only for the Chrome browser on x86/64 platforms. So, even though Chrome is Jelly Bean’s default Web browser , Pepper isn’t available on Android 4.1 and thus neither is Flash.
So, can you just use an older version of Flashon your new Android 4.1 device? Adobe suggests that this wouldn’t be a smart idea. “In many cases users of uncertified devices have been able to download the Flash Player from the Google Play Store, and in most cases it worked. However, with Android 4.1 this is no longer going to be the case, as we have not continued developing and testing Flash Player for this new version of Android and its available browser options. There will be no certified implementations of Flash Player for Android 4.1.”
Looking ahead, Adobe will be blocking Flash runtime downloads. “Beginning August 15th we will use the configuration settings in the Google Play Store to limit continued access to Flash Player updates to only those devicesthat have Flash Player already installed. Devices that do not have Flash Player alreadyinstalled are increasingly likely to be incompatible with Flash Player and will no longer be able to install it from the Google Play Store after August 15th.”
Just because Adobe says it doesn’t work and won’t support it doesn’t mean that the existing Flash Player won’t work on Android 4.1-powered smartphones and tablets. Some users are already successfully running Flash on their Jelly Bean devices . In the future, they expect they’ll just sideload it on their devices. But, as one developer pointed out, “Sooner or later, Adobe Flash Player will break.”

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is out

Android Jelly Bean For Galaxy Nexus, XOOM and Nexus S in Mid-July

While announcing the new flavor of Android, namely 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google also confirmed its availability for Ice Cream Sandwich-based devices.

Starting with mid-July, the owners of Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S devices will get a taste of it, the same as those who own a Motorola XOOM tablet.

The platform will be released along with the Android 4.1 source code, yet developers can already download and play with the updated SDK.

The new OS flavor comes with a host of new features, including UI changes, Google now, updated camera app, improved notifications system, better performance, and more.

There’s no mention of a rear camera, which means Google has skipped it in order to save on the cost. They also haven’t talked about the battery capacity, but say that it should last you about nine hours. Coming to pricing, the 8 GB model will cost around $199, while the 16 GB model will cost you $249. Yes, that’s the important part – the pricing. If Google’s tablet is coming at THIS price with THESE specs then the Kindle Fire 2 will definitely need to bring something new to the arena besides its flourishing ecosystem.

It's rumored the Fire 2 will be priced similarly, but will have better integrated lighting and more hardware improvements. No details about the processor and the other specs have been revealed, though. When it was first launched, the Kindle Fire was touted by many as the 'iPad Killer', primarily because of the price tag it was being offered at. It has competing products like the Barnes & Noble Nook tablet, but the competition is going to be even more massive this time if the pricing of the Fire 2 and the Nexus 7 is going to be similar. Amazon may also announce Kindle Touch, which will be at a lower price point. What this means is that ‘low budget but non-performing’ tablets will soon be phased out as the world shifts focus to decent quality products selling at ultra-low prices. Frankly, this may be one of the more exciting years from the consumers' perspective as brands quickly accelerate the shift to newer technology.

Microsoft has been in charge of Skype for a while now. For users, not much has changed until now. But Microsoft plans to sink its teeth deep into Skype and make sure it stays the most popular VoIP service online.

It seems that, strange as it may sound for Microsoft, the company is keeping an eye on the future and getting ready to support new web standards well before they're ratified, in this case WebRTC.

WebRTC is a work-in-progress specification for real-time communications over the web. This means low-latency and preferably high-quality audio and video streams to one or more partners.

It's no easy task, but Google and Mozilla are behind it so Chrome and Firefox, at the very least, will support it.

What this means is that anyone will be able to build a high-quality VoIP app using just web technologies. Granted, that doesn't mean that the next Skype is going to pop up overnight, but it's best to be prepared.

Microsoft has several job postings related to WebRTC, GigaOm has found. It seems that Microsoft plans to have a version of Skype in the browser.

That makes a whole lot of sense, not because Microsoft should keep up with current technologies, but because Skype working in a browser would be a great boon to the service. Other VoIP services already work in the browser, but they do so via a plugin or Flash.

Having the ability to run in any browser via standard technology would make it a lot easier for people to try out Skype or to use it when they're away from their computers, or on their phones or tablets.

Windows Phone Upgrade

One of the major changes that Microsoft announced for Windows Phone 8 is related to the manner in which updates will arrive on devices.

Until now, new software was being delivered to users through Microsoft’s Zune desktop software, or via the Windows Phone Companion for Mac, but that will change.

Starting with Windows Phone 8, platform refreshes will be rolled out over-the-air, thus simplifying the entire process. Additionally, the Redmond-based software giant committed to delivering more updates to users, more frequently.

The ultimate goal is to have the “fresher operating system” out there, Microsoft announced. All handsets will be supported for at least 18 months following their release on the market.

In a recent post on the Building Windows 8 Blog, Scott Manchester, group program manager for Microsoft’s Media Platform and Technologies team, explains in detail what makes Windows 8 a rich media platform. He offers info on resource usage, codecs support, video orientation, streaming capabilities, audio transitions, stereo 3D video, support for displaying content on multiple screens, platform’s capabilities to adapt, and the like.

“The Windows 8 media platform is designed to deliver a fluid and responsive media experience with great battery life,” Scott Manchester notes in the end. “We’ve engineered Windows to give you a great user experience across a broad set of scenarios, including voice communication, audio and video playback, and streaming content. As media applications continue to evolve, the media platform in Windows will enable these experiences to shine across all Windows 8 PCs.”
