Android 4.0 ICS for Sony Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray

Two weeks ago Sony promised it will start upgrading its 2011 Xperia smartphones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform beginning mid-April. True to its promise, the Japanese company has just announced the immediate availability of the update for three models.Starting today through early June no less than eight 2011 Xperia smarpthone are scheduled to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update

However, it would be impossible for Sony to deliver the update to all these eight smartphones at the same time. This is why the handset vendor stated it will make a short announcement every time Android 4.0 is released for a 2011 Xperia smartphone in a certain region. As expected, the first devices to get the upgrade are the Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray.
For the time being, the update is only available in Nordic countries, so those who own one of the three smartphones and live in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland or Norway can now upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

According to Sony, the software rollout for Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray will continue over the next 4-6 weeks, so we can safely assume it will be made available in other regions soon.

Moreover, the company plans to keep its customers informed on the availability of Android 4.0 ICS, so it will update its blog site when it becomes available in additional markets.

The update is now available for download in the countries mentioned earlier via Sony's PC Companion desktop software.

In the same piece of news, Sony confirmed that the following device will be upgraded to Android 4.0 ICS next: Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.

The Japanese company plans to start the second phase of the software rollout from the end of May or early June.

New Update For Nexus S Android 4.0.4 ICS

Today, Google has started the rollout of the Android 4.0.4 update for Nexus S, the older model aimed at developers. It appears that both AWS and GSM versions of the Nexus S are now eligible for upgrade, so those who have yet to be notified on the update can check for it manually by going to Settings, About phone, System updates. The good news is that the update can be installed on Nexus S models that are still stuck on older Android versions like Gingerbread.

That includes WIND Mobile and Mobilicity Nexus S models that are currently running a pretty recent Android 4.0.3 platform, as well as Rogers, TELUS, Fido and Koodo Nexus S variants, which are powered by Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread operating system.Android 4.0.4 ICS for Nexus S brings several important stability improvements, a much better camera performance, smoother screen rotation, as well as improved phone number recognition. The camera improvements seem to be pretty consistent as the focus issue has been corrected, as well as the yellowish problem when using the flash. The graininess of the pictures has been improved as well.Although Google has yet to detail the update’s change log, sources close to the matter claim that the company has added more than 100 improvements, tweaks and changes. Lots of bug fixes have been included as well along with support for exchange in the email client.

Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) For Aakash 2

Aakash one of the cheapest tablet in India its one of the product is Aakash 2. Aakash 2 is scheduled to arrive in couples of week Akash 2 will get upgraded to Google Android’s latest OS, Android 4.0/ Ice Cream Sandwich, as announced by Datawind. The tablet will be having Android Gingerbread 2.3 , but will get upgraded to ICS in six to eight weeks after the sales start to roll.

The product development is complete and deliveries are expected to start for Aakash 2 in about two or three weeks," Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of Datawind said in an e-mail. The Aakash 2 Tablet will have 2GB flash storage, an 800Mhz processor and a 256 MB RAM, wherein both of the above mentioned system requirements are below the recommended ones put forward by Google for their Ice Cream Sandwich to work fine. Google, themselves have not upgraded their developer phone Nexus One which has a 1GHz processor and a 512 MB RAM.

The Aakash 2 is a significant upgrade over the original Aakash tablet. The initial version of the tablet had a 7-inch resistive touchscreen, which reportedly failed to even respond to the touch on its screen. It ran Android 2.2 and a slower 366MHz processor, based on an older ARM architecture.

If Datawind can pull off this feat of running Ice Cream Sandwich smoothly on their tablets, then it most definitely would be something that other manufacturers would need to take notes from and try to give out updates for their mid-budget phones that use 800 MHz or more.

Google Tablet is ready but only start rolling from July

Google has seen good success with their ownbranded hardware whenit comes to smartphones. The Verge now reports that the Androidtablet is in fact ready, but Google won’t sell you one until July this year. Google had initiallyplanned to start selling the tablet as early as May. The reason for the delay is the required tweaking to the tablet, which will continue for a while longer. This information comes to The Verge through close sources who know a lot about the tablet. Some of thetweaks are being done to the design to try and reduce the price abit more.

The price of the official Google tablet, which according to reports is being built along with Asus has been pegged at roughly$249 (approximately Rs.13,000). The tablet will be sporting a  7-inch display running aNVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor and the Ice Cream Sandwich powered tablet is said to have Wi-Fi-only connectivity. Google’s tablet won’t bethe most inexpensive Android tablet around.  Asus is the vendor Google has chosen to work with on the tabletand Google has in the past, worked alongside others when it comes to their official Nexus Android smartphones, including HTC and Samsung. Asus is said to have shown off a tablet with similar pricingand specifications at CES, earlier this year. The MeMO ME370T tablet as it was called, too had a 7-inch display running a resolution of 1280x800.
